Video greats group This group, which meets on the first Wednesday of the month in Exeter College came into being several years ago, and it took its name from the BBC Learning zone’s screening of outstanding videos covering a wide range of subjects. It has proved to be very popular, and still has some founder members who attended the first meeting more than eight years ago. Many of the videos are recorded from BBC Learning zone’s broadcasts during the early hours, and include some offerings by the Open University. The main function of the video greats group is to provide learning for pleasure. Subjects covered have included English history, classical Greek and Roman history, art masterpieces, and lots more! Of course time is allowed for lively discussions of the subjects portrayed.
Wine group We meet once a month to sample four wines and discuss their attributes. Each member takes it in turn to purchase the varieties that they know, or wish to explore. They prepare as much information as they can, on their selection, to lead the tasting. We limit overall expenditure to £20 per session which is shared between the members attending. The group is restricted to 12 because there are only 750 millilitres in each bottle and we also have to fit into a members' home.
Quiz We occasionally hold a quiz just for fun. This is likely to take place when there is a fifth Wednesday in the month
