The bridge group meets after the monthly meeting in the central library.
Bring a sandwich lunch so that we can start at about 1.00pm and play for three hours.
Please let the leader know before hand if you wish to join in.
research.
About three or four times a year, this group visits two or three churches, mostly in Devon,
but occasionally venturing further afield, to look at interesting features of each building,
its surroundings and its history. Members of the group do the initial research, and share
their findings with the group on the day. We usually managed to find a local pub for lunch.
Car-sharing is arranged at the same venue as for the out and about a group. So far, we
have visited nearly 50 churches, ranging from a tiny church, where a wren built its nest in
the carving on the pulpit and the vicar, the Reverend Keble-Martin, instructed that the
church door be left open until the fledglings had flown, to large churches, such as
the one at Crediton.
Group
We generally arrange to see a film showing at the Picture House Cinema on the first
Thursday of the month. Times vary, of course. When possible, we join for a cup of
tea (free) afterwards in the bar and talk about what we have seen. The details are
generally given in the U3A monthly update.
Poetry Group
This group has formed fairly recently, . Monday afternoon suits us best, From 2:30pm until
about 4:30pm. We choose our next date at each meeting. There is usually an interval of
about a month between sessions. We normally select a topic for each meeting,
and bring poems of our own choice to read to each other. Now and again we borrow
cassettes from the U3A resource centre, and listen to poems read either by their authors
or by other celebrities.
