Reading group
10 members of the U3A belong to this group. We select a book a month from the central
library’s reading groups list. At the meeting we discuss the story, the writing and our likes
and dislikes. Choosing books from the library is free, but does limit our choice. Popular
books have to be ordered and waited for, sometimes for many months. Occasionally we
may read any book by a certain author or members may bring their own choice and share
their own pleasure of it.
Scrabble group
We meet fortnightly, on a Wednesday morning at 10am, We play two friendly games of
Scrabble, with a coffee and tea break after the first game. Incidentally, playing scrabble
improves your vocabulary and helps to keep your brain active.
French group This group meets fortnightly on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month,
from 10am to 12 noon. The standard is roughly higher intermediate, and would not be suitable
for beginners. Numbers are restricted to no more than eight due not only to space, but also
to give everyone a chance to participate. Our programme consists of some general
conversation, some reading and listening to cassettes. We make a great deal of use of the
French language magazine “La vie Outra-Manche”.
There are sometimes absentees from the group so if you're interested in coming there
might be a vacancy.
French conversation group
It is, in effect, a coffee morning in french, very unstructured and friendly. Most of us
have spent some time in French-speaking countries and are keen to keep up the fluency.
Yoga (aYs, formally Viniyoga)
This is a form of yoga which focuses on the breath. The postures and movements can be
as gentle or as strong as you wish. The breath acts as a link between body and mind,
promoting concentration and peacefulness. No experience of yoga is required.
